The discount is there, but not much. Yesterday, the government's price cap on diesel (but not gasoline) went into effect: 17 cents per liter, or a 14-cent cut in excise duty, plus a resulting 3-cent reduction in VAT.
But today, Wednesday, according to the Ministry of Enterprise's Observatory, the average price of diesel at self-service petrol stations in Sardinia is €2,070 per litre, while that of petrol is €1,993.
A situation more or less in line with the Italian one, among the regions with the highest prices compared to the island there are Basilicata and Calabria (2,098), Campania (2,127), Friuli Venezia Giulia (2,081), Lazio (2,072), Molise (2,090), Puglia (2,083), Sicily (2,123).
