Peppino Zanda, a former professor and agricultural entrepreneur, mayor of Desulo in the 1980s and then from 2004 to 2009, died yesterday after a long illness at the age of 76. But, above all, a protagonist of Barbagia politics, in which he has held various positions: councilor and provincial assessor, as well as President of the mountain community 12.

During his administrative action, he was among the first to address the problem of swine fever. Zanda is responsible for several interventions in the old reforestation site and battles for the enhancement of the mountain.

The memory of the mayor Gian Cristian Melis is moved: «We are losing a capable person, who has done so much for our country, becoming a fundamental part of its history. We are close to the family at this sad time."

The funeral will be celebrated today at 4.30 pm in the Parish of Sant'Antonio Abate.
