Deaths and rescues at sea increase in Sardinia: "Maximum caution is needed"
14 people have died in just under three monthsIn less than three months 75 people rescued and 14 unfortunately died at sea. A summer with too many tragedies and with numerous interventions by the Cagliari Coast Guard, forced to work extra hard, along the 950 kilometers of coast from Arbatax to Bosa , to avoid further tragedies often due to irresponsible behavior by boaters and swimmers.
"The sea must be respected," comments the maritime director of the Cagliari Coast Guard, Rear Admiral Giovanni Stella. "Unfortunately, there are those who face the sea when the conditions are not right. In this way, they put their own life at risk, but also that of the rescuers. Because the women and men of the Coast Guard are always there: and for this reason we ask everyone to be very careful." There were 14 people who died at sea: ten of these most likely had an illness. And then there were 75 rescues of yachtsmen, swimmers, canoeists, surfers. All recovered at sea in difficult conditions .
In these months, during the "Secure Sea" operation, the Coast Guard's military also carried out almost seven thousand checks: " 385 irregularities emerged. A number that increased by 24 percent compared to the same period last year . This means that there were many incorrect behaviors. We are sorry because we are not interested in making money."
