Meeting between the regional health councilor Carlo Doria and the representatives of general practitioners this afternoon. The hottest topic on the agenda is the shortage of general practitioners on the island .
"We have a duty to give answers to citizens in all those places lacking in primary care," says Doria, pointing out that the emergency Sardinia is facing also affects other regions of Italy.
We need "medium- and long-term structural measures at the national level", underlines the commissioner, but the current situation requires "immediate buffer measures" .
The Region, he claims, did so with the temporary increase of the ceilings from 1,500 to 1,800 patients : "We have not invented anything that was not already provided for by the national collective agreement," says Doria.
But general practitioners are against it, " 1,800 assisted are too many " in their opinion. And this is also being discussed this afternoon: «The doors of discussions are always open – continues Doria -, just as we are open to any proposal that can concretely contribute to achieving the goal of guaranteeing assistance to all citizens, equally throughout the region. We are well aware of the efforts doctors are subjected to every day and I am firmly convinced that this result can only be achieved through everyone's collaboration ».
The exponent of the Giunta Solinas also points out that a new regional tender for the assignment of vacant seats will soon be published .
