In one month they managed to steal the electrical cables of the street lamps that illuminate the new state road 195, they attacked the pump room of the aqueduct in the S'isca area and they even attempted a robbery at the Monti Nieddu dam: copper thieves unleashed between Sarroch, Pula and Villa San Pietro.
An organized gang, capable of operating on high voltage systems and able to move undisturbed in the territory in broad daylight.
The thieves who are attacking lighting systems and electrical wells and have already caused damages worth hundreds of thousands of euros.
Along the state road 195 bis, in the localities of Giuanni Daga and Corriaxu, copper thieves knocked out the street lamps on both sides for 3 km : a shepherd from the area noticed the raid, having noticed the uncovered wells and the stripped cables.
The attacks on the lighting systems of the Strada statale 195 also worry Anas, which explains however that the thefts will not have repercussions on the delivery of the works: «The issue concerns safety, because by stealing the cables that power the lighting the junctions remain in the dark until the system is restored».
The same thing happened in the S'Isca area, where there is a small house that houses the aqueduct service pumps: the thieves completely disabled the system in order to take away all the electrical cables.
The latest attack dates back to three days ago: at the construction site of the Monti Nieddu dam , where work will soon resume to complete the project, in the early afternoon three people were put to flight by the guard and the arrival of the barracellare company of the town.
The identity of the gang members could soon be revealed thanks to images recorded by security cameras that monitor the entire construction site area .
The mayor of Sarroch, Angelo Dessì , says he is concerned about the repeated thefts: « Beyond the economic damage, the main problem concerns road safety , we have worked hard to have lighting on the most dangerous road sections, it is unacceptable that they are once again shrouded in darkness because of those who have no qualms about stealing all the electrical cables they find ».
Copper thieves are also a safety problem according to Walter Cabasino, mayor of Pula : "Leaving roundabouts in the dark, after all the efforts made to install lighting systems, is damaging to the entire community. The roads in our area are already dangerous due to pets suddenly crossing the road, and if the key points are left in the dark, driving becomes even more risky."
