Controls by the Forestry Corps on sea urchins in Cagliari: penalties of 12 thousand euros

Verification activity by the Forestry Corps, territorial service of Cagliari, on the marketing of the sea urchin.

Overall, 33 establishments such as restaurants, fishmongers and street stalls were checked. 8 the ascertained violations, 12 thousand euros in total the amount of the fines paid regarding: the lack of traceability, labeling; fishing for undersized specimens; the counterfeiting of products intended for consumption.

4 kg of illegally preserved sea urchin pulp, without labeling and without a traceability document, ended up under seizure; 3.000 specimens of sea urchins found undersized compared to the permitted size, which were reintroduced into the water.
