Four months for manslaughter and a separate award of damages. Judge Valentina Nuvoli, appearing today in court in Sassari, sentenced Maria Lina Piga, president of the "Serenissima" cooperative, which, in 2017, ran a residential community in Codrongianos.

A 75-year-old man with Parkinson's disease was staying here. Eight years ago in October, he left the facility to climb a ladder and fell 4 meters from it. He sustained serious injuries and died a few months later. Along with Piga, healthcare workers Irene Loi and Maria Maddalena Demontis were also indicted for failing to supervise the man. However, the judge acquitted both of them on the grounds of non-compliance, as requested by prosecutor Angelo Beccu.

The same prosecutor had requested a four-month sentence for Piga, believing that the man, not independent, could not be admitted to the residential community. The civil parties were represented by attorney Alessandra Delrio, while Piga was represented by lawyers Carlo Pinna Parpaglia and Enrico Fresu, who also defended Loi. Demontis was represented by attorney Luigi Esposito.
