The 23 kilos of pure cocaine from Spain were headed to the Cagliari market and were seized a few days ago by investigators from the Guardia di Finanza in the port of Livorno, on a car that was about to board the ferry to Olbia. The Tuscan military arrested the courier: he is a young Sardinian, just over twenty years old, who – according to the investigators’ reconstruction – was supposed to bring the drugs to Sardinia and then transport them to their destination.
The operation
The operation carried out by the Guardia di Finanza in recent days in Tuscany is being covered in the utmost secrecy, when two vehicles with foreign license plates and coming from Spain were intercepted in Cecina. A high-powered car with Iberian license plates was followed for several hours, until the driver, a North African, stopped in a parking lot at the exit of the Aurelia. The second car was then stopped in the port of Livorno by a patrol of the Finance Police's anti-drug unit. The drugs were found in a hiding place in the false bottom of the car. According to the analyses carried out using drop-test reagents supplied to the body, the cocaine was extremely pure. In the end, 23 kilos were found, all perfectly packaged. The investigators are keeping the affair under the utmost secrecy, but in recent days the military have already managed to reconstruct the "journey" of the drug from Spain to the port of Livorno.
The investigations
In the meantime, investigations are continuing to understand who all that cocaine was destined for. The first investigations have already allowed us to understand that the drug, discovered before it was shipped to the island, would have been directed not only to the Cagliari market but also to the Medio Campidano market. It is therefore not excluded that now a part of the investigation, coordinated by the Livorno Prosecutor's Office, will be transmitted to the Sardinian Anti-Mafia District Directorate. Due to its quantity and purity, the seized cocaine would have had an enormous market value.
