The young Andrea Borrielli, 15 years old from Castelsardo , student of the second class of the Angioy Industrial Technical Institute, Chemistry and Materials course of Sassari, is among the finalists of the 34th European Union competition "Young people and the sciences" . Open to all upper secondary school students, it aims to arouse their interest in science and research and encourage them to pursue scientific careers. Not only that, the idea is also to develop children's creativity , foster awareness of the importance of research as a development factor for society and stimulate the spirit of innovation and collaboration.

The initiative is aimed at young scientists aged 14 to 20 , who can participate with a project carried out individually or in groups. Selected by the jury, Andrea is participating in the final in Milan , where the work will be presented to the jury, journalists, scientists present and the public. The project, entitled "An experiment in the removal of micro plastics - results and application" , provides a clear answer to the environmental problem that concerns them, suggesting a method of elimination from waste water, using an organic component.

The competition this year also hosts ten interesting projects from: Belgium, Brazil, Mexico, Portugal, Spain, Taiwan and Turkey. There are 23 Italian finalist projects , created by 52 students.
