Seventeen irregularities, nine of them serious, endangering the safety of navigation. They were discovered by Cagliari Coast Guard personnel aboard a 14,000-ton container ship flying the Liberian flag, which arrived in Cagliari's canal port on October 25th.

The ship has been detained until the anomalies are resolved and safety is ensured. The inspection began on Sunday. The Port State Control Inspection Unit of the Cagliari Maritime Directorate boarded the container ship and found "serious deficiencies in the crew's emergency preparation and response, fire prevention and firefighting, and onboard safety management," the Coast Guard explained.

"The detention," the Coast Guard announced, "will be maintained until the anomalies have been completely eliminated and all corrective measures required by international conventions regarding navigational safety and the safety of human life at sea have been adopted."
