«Card received, thanks for the promotion»: but it's all false. The "bus scam" returns to Cagliari
The public transport company CTM is in the crosshairs. The fraudulent link on social media to obtain subscriptions at rock-bottom prices: "Attention, report it"Per restare aggiornato entra nel nostro canale Whatsapp
Subscriptions almost given away on Facebook and discounts to use public transport in Cagliari. But (this time too) it is a scam. Despite numerous reports from the official page , CTM is once again in the sights of those who, with a "fake" page, promise vouchers and cards at rock-bottom prices. The method, already denounced by citizens and the company that manages the vehicles in the city, is always the same: an eye-catching post and little (but targeted) information to pique the curiosity of those who browse social media. And so the scam is served, with the invitation to click on a link that can take you anywhere except the company website. «Get the CTM card and ride for free for a year! CTM spa launches a campaign to improve urban traffic and encourage Cagliari residents to use public transport. Special offer valid until 30 June 2024! Click on the link below!», says the advertisement published by “Trasporto Pubblico Cagliari”, including typos and inconsistencies.
But if two weeks ago the promises came from the "Administration of Cagliari" (now disappeared from the network) now they are signed by a new page, which takes up the baton of the previous one and relaunches with a "plus". In fact, in the comments, on display, the photos posted by those who claim to have already received the card now appear. “It arrived a few days ago and I have already tested it, everything works,” writes a user. “Thank you for this great promotion,” says another. All new profiles, created between June 16th and 18th, just when the profile was born.
"Attention, false news", they warned from the CTM just over 10 days ago, asking to collaborate with the reports to close the profile. Finally mission accomplished. But history repeats itself. «We have already reported everything to the postal police and Meta. The real damage, however, is for users and our subscribers - the company says -. We will continue to protect ourselves and monitor the situation which, unfortunately, is not limited to Sardinia but is repeating itself throughout Italy."
