The symbol of coal mining, already affected by an important redevelopment work, becomes a symbol of technological innovation and energy transition. This morning, in the Great Mine of Serbariu, in Carbonia, the Municipality and Sotacarbo presented the agreement on the energy district that will rise in the old mine: a single energy network that will allow all buildings to support each other, selling to those who any excess energy production will request it. A full-fledged energy community.

"This is a project that encompasses the transition that the whole world expects - says Mario Porcu, president of Sotacarbo - the abandonment of fossil sources, the use of energy produced from renewable sources, the energy efficiency of buildings and the of an intelligent network capable of satisfying the consumption of the local community with local energy resources ". The entire area of the Grande Minierà will be equipped with plants for the production of energy from renewable sources, taking into account the energy needs.

The creation of energy districts at the local level is strongly recommended by the EU as a way to promote decarbonization, the municipal administration of Carbonia wants to take this path.

“A first example of what we propose is the Recover project - said Pietro Morittu, Mayor of Carbonia - a proposal that sees us engaged with Sotacarbo and island universities and other research bodies. This is a project worth around 12 million euros which aims to make the building that previously housed the mine's technical office into a cutting-edge technological laboratory on zero-emission technologies ”.
