An illegal open-air landfill on (also) state-owned land: this is what the Forestry Carabinieri discovered in recent days in La Maddalena.
Investigations led to the identification of two Italian citizens residing in La Maddalena and owners of a construction company . According to the investigation, the two had been transporting and disposing of non-hazardous special waste resulting from the company's construction activities in the area for some time, without the required permits . Initially, the waste was dumped on a private property undergoing construction by the same company near Via Suor Gotteland in La Maddalena. Subsequently, due to the progressive accumulation of material, the dumping spread to the adjacent state-owned military area, still within the Maddalena Archipelago National Park.
The two individuals involved, the sole director and the construction manager of the construction company, were identified and reported at large by the Caprera Forestry Carabinieri to the Tempio Pausania Public Prosecutor's Office . They face charges of illegal management of non-hazardous special waste and occupation of public land.
