At night they wander around the town looking for a place to sleep, during the day they park on a bench in front of the Capoterra Town Hall.

Ornella Pili (60 years old) and Antonio Di Pinto (64) have been living on the streets for a year and a half, and don't even have a car to take refuge in when it rains or is cold. Their belongings are enclosed in the shopping bags that they carry with them: a shower is a luxury that they can afford every now and then, thanks to some acquaintances.

For nine years they lived in Via Diaz where they had occupied a house in a building owned by the Municipality. In November 2002, says Ornella, «we were kicked out, I was still in bed when the police arrived to make us leave the apartment. Since then we have become homeless, social services continue to tell us that we have to work hard to find accommodation, but no one is willing to rent a house to someone in our situation, even if the Municipality would then pay. We no longer even receive the citizen's income, and from what we understand, it would seem that we have also been canceled from the list of residents in Capoterra. This is not life."

The mayor, Beniamino Garau, announced that he will consult with social services "to understand how to intervene immediately".
