Carabinieri officers from the Cagliari Mobile Radio Unit arrested a 49-year-old unemployed man, already known to the police, on suspicion of attempted extortion and resisting a public official.
According to the reconstruction, the man, in a state of evident psychophysical alteration , had entered the parking lot reserved for the employees of the Municipality of Capoterra and, after having taken out a switchblade, had started to swear and to demand the handing over of a sum of money that he believed was owed to him by the Mayor and by social services.

His screams and threatening attitude caused great concern among those present, who called for help from a policeman who was off duty near the Town Hall.
The soldier, in civilian clothes and completely unarmed, promptly intervened to bring the situation under control: he approached calmly and with composure and managed to disarm the man and block him, avoiding the risk that anyone could be injured.

The timely action neutralized the threat until the patrol, which had been called in for support, arrived. The 49-year-old was then transferred to the barracks and subsequently to the Uta prison, where he was held at the disposal of the judicial authorities.
