The flames engulfed their vehicle in moments. They barely had time to get out and save their dog before the camper exploded before their eyes.

There were moments of fear last September 21st along the State Road 129 bis, near the Macomer junction, where a camper van carrying a German tourist couple and their "four-legged friend" was suddenly destroyed by a fire.

The intervention of the police, with a patrol car from the Macomer police station, and the firefighters was providential, quickly securing the area, preventing the flames from spreading further or affecting other passing vehicles.

According to initial reconstructions, the fire was triggered by a short circuit in the engine compartment. Within minutes, the fire spread to the rest of the vehicle, fueled by several LPG cylinders, which exploded, making the situation even more critical. The camper was completely destroyed.

The two tourists, in shock and left without their documents, personal belongings, and credit cards, were immediately assisted by police officers. At the Macomer Police Station, they were offered refreshments, logistical support, and psychological support while awaiting the intervention of the German Consulate to issue the temporary documents needed to return home. In the evening, they were taken to a local hotel, where they were able to spend the night safely.

The couple wanted to express their deep gratitude to the police for the professionalism shown during the intervention and for the human support they received in such a dramatic moment.
