The Department for the South of the Presidency of the Council of Ministers has revoked single authorization no. 74 of 2026 which had given the green light to the contested Tavolara Bay project in Cala Finanza .

The decision comes after the Loiri Porto San Paolo city council revoked the November 2025 ordinance that allowed the redevelopment of Villa Joy.

The mayor of Loiri Porto San Paolo, Francesco Lai, and the Sardinia Region announced the news.

"The Region," emphasized Vice President Giuseppe Meloni , "has opposed the measure at every level, first formally challenging it before the Council of Ministers and then before the administrative court. The project violated regional landscape regulations and the territorial governance powers that the Special Statute grants to Sardinia ."

Today's revocation "demonstrates that we had valid reasons to challenge that provision," Meloni emphasized, emphasizing that the Region's "fight has never been against anyone, but for respect for the rules and the Special Statute , through which Sardinia exercises its powers and protects the territory, the landscape, and the right of communities to participate in decisions that affect them."

The decision taken in Rome is "an important recognition of these principles," Meloni concluded, thanking the Municipality of Loiri Porto San Paolo for revoking its resolution.

According to leaks, the government did not want to enter into a conflict of powers before the Constitutional Court over an issue that is of little interest to the national executive.

Just yesterday in Cala Finanza there was a large demonstration against the Brazilian project that brought together the Sardinian people, environmentalists and independence activists.
