After years of abandonment, work restarts at the archaeological site of the bastion of Santa Caterina, in Cagliari . The announcement came from the architect of the Municipality's Department of Culture, Maria Luisa Mulliri, during the meeting of the council commission convened to discuss the state of the art of the construction sites of the city's monuments.

According to the timetable, the final project will be approved within the week and the workers, with the intervention already contracted, will be on the field by the end of September. Six months of work and the site will be open to visitors: the now abandoned construction site will disappear, a roof will be built, and the ancient spaces will be accessed through an entrance next to the staircase that connects the two terraces, of Saint Remy and Santa Caterina.

The estimated cost is 500 thousand euros, 100 thousand more than the initial estimate: an increase caused by the general increase in the costs of raw materials, such as steel.

«The work on the Bastion of Santa Caterina is excellent news that we have been waiting for for years», says the municipal councilor of Possibile, Francesca Mulas, « finally the construction site will disappear from the terrace of the most famous monument in Cagliari and the city will be able to regain possession of a piece of its most ancient history". However, given the delays on all the city's construction sites, adds the opposition representative, «I have serious doubts about the fact that the times announced by the offices will be respected: we will carefully monitor the progress of the works, hoping that there are still no problems. Then there remains the problem of maintenance and controls on the Bastion, which until now has been left in the hands of vandals: it is useless to return the monuments to the city if there is no care taken in safeguarding and protecting them."
