It had been expected for almost a year, since last spring the architect Stefano Boeri arrived in Cagliari to present the project for the new waterfront, the great urban plan wanted by the administration of Paolo Truzzu which brings the city closer to the sea .

Now that project becomes a construction site and in a month (end of February) the works that will revolutionize the center of Cagliari (for the better) will begin: they will start from via Roma, on the arcade side, which will be closed to car traffic for a few months, until early summer; then in May, after the feast of Sant'Efisio, the construction site in Piazza Matteotti will start in parallel and will completely redevelop the square.

Once the arrangement of via Roma on the portico side has been completed, with the arrangement of the flooring, the construction of new sidewalks and the new LED lighting, work will begin on the covered walkway which will become a large tree-lined boulevard . Expected deadline for the completion of the construction site: 18 months.

And here phase 1 of the waterfront project ends. Then phase 2 will begin, the one that sees the completion of the work with all the new roads and the revitalization of the underground gallery (a trench) along the port. Last December, the municipality awarded the design tender.

The works will inevitably create inconvenience to the circulation of cars : for this reason the administration has foreseen (in agreement with the Arst) that the works of the surface underground will begin in via Roma in front of the port only after the conclusion of those already begun in piazza Repubblica, via Dante, viale Cimitero and viale Diaz.
