In Cagliari , between Christmas lights and the frenzy of last-minute purchases, a new statue becomes part of the 2024 Nativity Scene of artisans and farmers. It is the “ young cheesemaker ”, who tells of an ancient profession that, despite its apparent simplicity, contains the passion and ingenuity that make Sardinian products unique. A tribute to a knowledge that cannot be lost: that of the hands that work milk, that transform it into a product that tells stories of tradition, quality and innovation.

This morning, Confartigianato Sud Sardegna and Coldiretti Cagliari delivered the statue to the Archbishop of Cagliari, Giuseppe Baturi . "This year we celebrate the 'beautiful, good and well done', which is our trademark," said Fabio Mereu, president of Confartigianato Sud Sardegna, referring to the statue that embodies the value of island and Italian production. Giorgio Demurtas, president of Coldiretti Cagliari, also underlined the importance of this choice, highlighting how the statuette of the young cheesemaker is a symbol of a world that, while facing the challenges of modernity, knows how to remain firmly anchored to tradition. "This is a message of added value," he said. "A manual skill that links the past and the future, innovation and tradition, between territory and certified quality."

“La giovane casara” is part of a larger project, which has seen, in previous years, the inclusion in the Nativity Scene of figures representing different professions: from the nurse to the digital entrepreneur, from the floriculturist to the master craftsman. Every year, a new figure tells a part of our history and, above all, of our future, in which work and passion for the land are the undisputed protagonists.

Monsignor Baturi appreciated the gift, revealing how the Nativity Scene, traditionally linked to Christmas, is a symbol of hope that, even in difficult times, can represent a new beginning. The Bishop emphasized that this figurine invites us to reflect on the importance of care and dedication, values that translate into work, but also into a collective vision of community, in a commitment that is always linked to the land and its resources.
