The Parco di San Michele will reopen to the public starting tomorrow, Tuesday 22 August 2023, which will observe the usual hours, from 5.30 to 24.

The closure of the park had become necessary for the execution of the restoration interventions following the fire that had affected the hill on 26 July 2023.

The refreshment point-bar will also be operational again, from 9.30 to 23, while the refreshment point-pizzeria will reopen on Wednesday 23 August from 19 to 23.

The Municipal Art and Culture Center "Castello di San Michele" will also reopen, open continuously from 10 to 20. The guides and art historians will be available for guided tours inside and outside the Castle. For more information, you can contact the operators by calling 070/15240479 or by sending an email to: castellosanmichele@orientare.it.

However, the area of the so-called "grottino", located on the top of the first ramp of access number 2 of via Cinquini and the area of the offices located in the western part of the top of the hill will remain inaccessible. They will return to complete use of the park at the end of the restoration work.

"Immediately after the fire - commented Mayor Paolo Truzzu - the Parks Service took action to count the damage and to restore the safety conditions, essential for the reopening of the San Michele Park to the public, with the company which manages the green area. Despite the difficulties in procuring materials in the month of August, the works were completed in the shortest time possible to allow the many visitors to the park to enjoy their daily life. The construction site for the forestation intervention in San Michele and Monte Urpinu will start in the autumn, which will see the overall planting of 32,000 new plants including trees and shrubs: we will evaluate the possibility of finding additional resources for San Michele”.

"The Park of San Michele - added the Deputy Mayor and Councilor for Public Greens Giorgio Angius - will reopen tomorrow in almost all of the areas: two circumscribed areas on the western side of the hill will be temporarily excluded, which require longer intervention times, but which do not affect the overall use of the park, which extends over 24 hectares. During the restoration works, priority was given to the reconstruction of the fences that protect the path that leads from the second entrance of via Cinquini to the Castle, the lighting system and the water and irrigation system affected by the flames, thanks to the coordination of the Parks, Green and Wildlife Management Service”.
