Dirty classrooms, full of dust and slippery, as well as lacking the most basic furnishings (educational and otherwise), broken shutters, lack of adequate spaces to carry out physical activities, an external courtyard full of waste and an unusable five-a-side football pitch. Construction waste inside and outside the institute.

The Italo Stagno school in via Is Mirrionis in Cagliari is in complete disrepair: the 180 young students of the institute in via Stockholma , unusable due to ongoing works, are hosted there.

This was reported by 47 teachers from the primary school in via Stockholma, who after the second day of teaching in the Is Mirrionis complex, in a vitriolic statement asked for immediate intervention from the competent bodies.

There is a need, they explain, for a " deep cleaning with sanitation and sanitization of the entire structure ", together with "the elimination of all construction site residues and scurrilous and obscene writings on the perimeter walls".

The teachers make a list of the material, didactic and otherwise, that is missing: « 10 whiteboards , 10 interactive multimedia whiteboards or Smart Boards, a photocopy machine, chairs for teachers forced to work standing for the entire duration of the lessons and for the pupils that are proportionate to their age , desks with drawers, shelves, wardrobes and filing cabinets", even " waste bins ".

The requests also include the activation of an Internet line, the repair of broken shutters and 5 portable stereo radios for English, music and physical education teachers. There is also a lack of assistants to direct and supervise children when they have to get on and off the school bus.

The external courtyard, the teachers continue, must be reclaimed and made safe , currently hosting a pile of old furnishings.

«We wonder - this is the statement of the 47 signatories - how the Regional Guarantor for Children has not yet intervened to highlight this unfortunate context for the protection of children to the Local Authority . Having said all this, immediate intervention by the competent bodies is required, in order to avoid the continuation of this serious situation of degradation of a "jolly school" designed to guarantee the education and compulsory schooling of the youngest, in order to ensure the protection and their safety and compliance with safety regulations in working and teaching environments. At the same time, the teachers decline any responsibility for any damage caused to minors due to spaces that are not sanitized and sanitised, covered in dust and slippery, with still evident residues from construction sites (inside the entire building, including classrooms) or from high temperatures, considering that to date there are no suitable outdoor spaces in which to carry out recreational breaks and educational activities".
