Moments of tension this morning in Cagliari, at the Su Siccu dock, during the safety operations of the “Gennaro Cantiello”, the old half-sunken ship that many years ago transported prisoners to Asinara.
During the intervention, the owner of the vessel showed up, evidently against the removal of the wreck, and protested very vigorously.
The Port Authority and the State Police were alerted because the man seemed intent on jumping into the water from the dock to put the company entrusted with the task out of business.
After a conversation between the owner and the officers, calm returned.
The “Gennaro Cantiello” is a ship of about 40 meters used for years for the transfer of prisoners to the Asinara prison. Then, moored at Su Siccu, it was transformed into a restaurant barge, but the commercial activity has long since ceased.
The last act last year when the ship half sunk. Then the decision to secure the area by removing the wreck. But the owner never agreed.
