One hundred meters of net, for illegal fishing, inside the Terramaini-Mammarranca canal: the discovery was made by the land and naval departments of the Forestry Corps, in Cagliari, during an operation to combat poaching.
Over 120 kilos of illegally caught grey mullet were recovered from the net. Following veterinary analysis, it was certified that the fish was unfit for human consumption. Hence the decision: the fish was destroyed and the net confiscated.
The operation is particularly important for the protection of consumer health, the Forestry Commission reports. "since the Terramaini-Mammarranca canal is known for the high load of organic matter in its waters. The fish caught in this area, coming from waters of a quality that does not comply with hygiene and health standards, would have been illegally introduced into the commercial chain, representing a serious danger for food safety".
