A river of light to pierce the darkness of modern slavery. Saturday, February 8, at 7:45 p.m., the streets of Cagliari will be filled with torches and prayers in memory of the victims of prostitution exploitation .
A moment of reflection and commitment, led by Archbishop Monsignor Giuseppe Baturi, to forcefully say that no one should be left alone.
The event, entitled “In the Dark, a Light,” is promoted on the occasion of the World Day of Prayer and Reflection for Victims of Trafficking and is part of the celebrations for the centenary of the birth of Don Oreste Benzi, founder of the Pope John XXIII Community. Don Benzi himself, for years, fought to restore dignity to people forced into prostitution, tearing them away from the grip of criminal organizations and accompanying them towards a new life.
The torchlight procession is organized by the Community of Pope John XXIII, Caritas and the Consultation of the social-welfare charitable organizations of the diocese of Cagliari. The procession will start from the Post Office in Via Simeto and will cross Viale Elmas, Viale Sant'Avendrace, Via Tirso, Via Santa Gilla and Via Po, before returning to the starting point.
