In Sant'Elia, landfills are popping up everywhere. In the Canaletto area – so where the waterfront is – in Piazza Lao Silesu (right next to a kindergarten), between the buildings on Via Schiavazzi and, the most “recent”, in Via Salvatore Ferrara, in the parking lots where on Sundays there is a hobbyist market.
These are piles of waste of all types, from the most classic to the most bulky. Now, however, the Municipality is taking action . Starting today, the Department of Urban Hygiene, Environment and Public Greenery will begin a series of extraordinary cleaning operations to remove illegal landfills and restore urban decorum in green spaces and near homes.
The intervention will concern the entire residential area, close to the car parks of the heart market and the old village, up to the road that leads to the small beach of the rock. "Sant'Elia is one of the most significant urban areas in terms of environmental and tourist potential", says councilor Luisa Giua Marassi, "its growth passes through constant cleaning interventions, such as those underway, and an active dialogue with the citizens, so that they renew their civic responsibility".
The cleaning plan, which is part of a broader program of recovery and enhancement of the urban heritage, will be divided into approximately 15 days of actions on the territory. Specifically, thanks to the collaboration between the Municipality and companies specialized in green maintenance, the flowerbeds cleared of waste will be restored. "I invite citizens," continues the councilor, "to collaborate with the municipal administration to respect the rules on waste collection and keep the neighborhood clean. In fact, differentiating means savings for everyone."
