An AW139 helicopter from the 4th Coast Guard Helicopter Flight Section Cagliari - Decimomannu rescued the commander of a fishing vessel operating 70 miles south of Cagliari, suffering from cerebral ischemia.

The crew was alerted by the Operations Center of the Maritime Directorate of Cagliari, coordinated by the General Command of the Port Authorities of Rome, due to the request for medical evacuation of the 75-year-old, who had fallen ill during a fishing trip.
Having received the request from the Operations Center, the helicopter, after having embarked medical personnel at Elmas airport, took off directly towards the fishing vessel. Once in the operations area, the Coast Guard air rescuer was lowered using a winch and, having arrived on the deck of the fishing vessel, he harnessed the 75-year-old who, once stabilised, was taken on board the helicopter on a stretcher.
Once the medical evacuation was completed, the Coast Guard helicopter transported the passenger to Brotzu to hand him over to the medics.
