Cagliari, from the Amphitheater to the Bastion: tourists among the decaying monuments
Weeds, graffiti and rubbish: the disappointment of visitors who arrive in the capital and find themselves in neglectPer restare aggiornato entra nel nostro canale Whatsapp
Cagliari , the image of the Amphitheater is perhaps the worst. Weeds, bottles and rubbish of all kinds cover the white limestone rock along the entire gate.
Villa Tigellio , on the other hand, the Roman-era residential complex that has been closed for some time, is completely submerged in vegetation. But neglect and degradation also characterize other monuments of the city: the Bastion, the endless construction site in Santa Caterina, the smeared plexiglass and the cracked marble benches on the Umberto I terrace , everyone knows.
Just as we know of the Tower of San Pancrazio where, while awaiting restoration by the Ministry of Cultural Heritage (a wait that has lasted for six years), no one can enter and weeds grow on the stone while the wood of the attics inexorably shows the signs of the time.
Fifteen minutes after 10, Sunday morning in via Carbonazzi: «C'est incroyable!», it's incredible, say Roman and Babette, two tourists arriving from France (Normandy). They don't believe their eyes. I am in front of Villa Tigellio where the uncultivated vegetation is so high as to cover part of the walkway built for visitors and for some sections also the "stucco house" which owes its name to the presence of fragments of stucco decoration.
«We have budgeted the money to clean up Villa Tigellio», around 150 thousand euros, «we will proceed shortly. Then the space will be "transferred" to the Culture service which will decide on the management», explains Gabriella Deidda, councilor for public works.
