A gesture of solidarity capable of giving life back to those who have been waiting for a long time , like a man who only had 48 hours to receive an organ that would allow him to move forward.
This is what happened at the Santissima Trinità in Cagliari , where organs were removed from a 37-year-old patient, resident in a town in the Iglesiente area and who died due to a post-anoxic coma in the Is Mirrionis hospital. Once the patient's encephalic death was certified and the consent of the family was obtained, the doctors, coordinated by the Regional Transplant Center of Cagliari, started the process for the removal of the heart, liver and kidneys. The operation was carried out by the teams belonging to the Centers to which the organs were allocated.
Therefore «thanks to the spirit of self-sacrifice and the exhausting work of almost twenty-four hours carried out by the health workers, together with the strong solidarity shown by the family members in such a tragic and painful moment - comments Marcello Tidore, manager of the ASL of Cagliari - it was possible to save the lives of four patients, Sardinians and those from the peninsula".
