The Municipality of Cagliari has formalized its intention to join the European Coalition of Cities Against Racism (ECCAR). As announced by Mayor Massimo Zedda in recent days during the "Residential Seminar for Anti-Racism Policymakers in Metropolitan Cities", Cagliari will ask to join the European Coalition of Cities Against Racism.
The center-left city council has decided to start the process to ensure that the Sardinian capital becomes part of a network in which the Metropolitan City of Cagliari is already present . "This is an important step in the fight against discrimination," says the councilor for Public Education, Youth Policies and Equal Opportunities, Giulia Andreozzi, who supported the mayor in the project.
Eccar, the European version of Iccar, the International Coalition of Inclusive and Sustainable Cities, is an initiative launched by UNESCO in 2004 with the aim of creating a network of cities interested in sharing their experiences and knowledge in implementing local policies that successfully combat racism, discrimination and xenophobia or in improving existing ones, to transform cities into safe and inclusive places for everyone. " It is", explained Giulia Andreozzi, "a project in which we believe a lot, an important step not only for the Department of Equal Opportunities but for the entire municipal administration, which is committed to adopting concrete and effective anti-discrimination practices".
Eccar has an action plan drawn up in ten points that correspond to ten commitments in various areas of expertise such as education, housing, work and cultural activities, for each of which each city that has signed the coalition commits to carrying out at least one action.
