The Repubblica-San Gottardo section of Cagliari's light metro will reopen on Monday, October 27. The first train will depart at 6:04 a.m. from the Repubblica terminus, restoring the direct connection between the city center and the Monserrato Polyclinic, which can be reached in 22 minutes.
After years of waiting, seemingly endless work, testing, and pre-operational testing, the doubling of the tracks "now allows travel in safer conditions, on a more modern and technologically advanced infrastructure," according to Arst.
The upgrade of the line also allows for an increase in the frequency of runs, "with greater operational flexibility to deploy additional trams as needed."
During weekday rush hour—7:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. and 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.— trams will run every 10 minutes, while during the rest of the day and on holidays they will run every 20 minutes. The service will run daily from 6:00 a.m. to 10:30 p.m.
The timetables "have been designed to ensure a coordinated service with the other operators of the metropolitan transport system," promoting connections, for example, with Line 2 of the metrotram towards Settimo San Pietro, with the Arst regional trains to Parteolla and Mandas-Isili, and with the shuttle buses to and from Sestu, Sinnai, and Maracalagonis.
Thanks to this integration, it will be possible, for example, to reach Piazza Repubblica from Settimo San Pietro in 32 minutes, or the University Hospital from Maracalagonis in 30 minutes, by combining bus and tram.
The MetroCagliari system map and all information on travel tickets, line timetables, and integrated services can be found in the dedicated section of the website arst.sardegna.it/servizi-orari/metro-cagliari/.
