The decision was long overdue.

This morning the go-ahead from the university arrived, which declared the secular ficus and the wall "safe again" and so the Municipality of Cagliari is preparing to reopen via Porcell: the road that connects Stampace to Castello had been closed last 29 November due to a crumbling wall (owned by the university) and at risk of collapse due to the large roots of a centuries-old ficus in front of the building that houses the Department of Public Health and Biomedical Sciences.

Therefore, after five months, one of the fundamental arteries for traffic will finally reopen to the traffic of cars and public transport and it will happen within the next two to three weeks. Good news for motorists, who for months have been forced to take an alternative route designed by the Municipality which has now, with the opening of large construction sites in the city, contributed to traffic congestion.

"We will reopen via Porcell together with via Giussani" explains the commissioner for traffic Alessio Mereu . “This is because only in this way will it be possible to restore the viability without further consequences for traffic. Via Giussani still needs seven to ten days, for this reason after the 17th we will proceed with the ordinances, then we will trace the signs and together with via Giussani ", closed to replace a water pipeline, " via Porcell will reopen definitively ". In any case, concludes the commissioner, "as soon as we are ready, we will give ample and detailed communication to the citizens on the exact day of the reopening".
