Maria Antonia Trogu, who celebrated her one hundred and first birthday yesterday , Thursday 27 August, has brilliantly passed the century and still smiles on life.

A special birthday spent in the company of her beloved children, Renzo, Rina, and Marcello Chessa , her six grandchildren, and her ten-month-old great-grandson. Today, another celebration was held with the healthcare workers of Villa Giavesu, the integrated community where she has been living for a year, the nursing home in Cuglieri managed by the Brexian company of Bosa.

An undying temperament and a thirst for knowledge have brought Maria Antonia to this day: she reads a lot of books and knits when she can. Until a few years ago, she even drove her inseparable car. A life of work and family, she ran the bakery in Scano for many years with her husband Giuseppe, raising their children with the exclusive maternal love of our land, navigating the seasons of life with joys and sorrows.

Sardinian longevity is still being studied by scientists: it's inscribed in the genes, supported by a healthy diet and that mysterious elixir of long life that the grandparents of Montiferru jealously guard.
