He was locked up in prison from November 21, 2018 to June 22, 2019: he was innocent. For this reason, Enorese Egharevba, a Nigerian who will soon turn 42 , will be compensated by the State for wrongful imprisonment: the Court of Appeal of Cagliari has ordered the Ministry of Economy and Finance to pay him 70 thousand euros.
The accusations, which later turned out to be completely unfounded, are defined as "particularly defamatory". The forty-two-year-old had been accused of being part of the Nigerian mafia that had set up a major drug and human trafficking ring in the Cagliari area. This, at least, according to the investigators who had carried out a raid. The castle reported in the documents, however, collapsed when the papers arrived in court. And it emerged that there had never been a powerful African criminal gang in the Cagliari area.
Egharevba certainly had nothing to do with it, and he was defended (in the trial and in the compensation request) by lawyers Alessio Alias and Adina Barbu. The investigating judge had established it in February 2024: the precautionary custody had been applied "in the absence of serious evidence of guilt" and "no profile of guilt had been detected" against him. Innocent, in every way. And now compensated with 70 thousand euros: approximately 333 for each day of unjust detention.
