They will be the special caretakers of the beach, kind guards ready to stop sand thieves, those who smoke a few meters from the crystal clear water of the Sinis and all those who will not respect the environment.

The Sinis Sentinels project starts again in Cabras, created by the Marine Protected Area for environmental protection and sustainable development. For the second year in a row, the collaboration with the Legambiente Onlus association is confirmed, which after the success of last season has included the Sinis destination within the range of offers of naturalistic themed camps, once again alongside the numerous holiday camp options on five continents.

The volunteers, housed in the youth hostel in Funtana Meiga, will be present in rotation over the three months on the beaches of Is Arutas, San Giovanni di Sinis, Mari Ermi, Maimoni and S'Archeddu e sa canna. Each camp has a duration of ten days; the first three groups will be made up of minors, young volunteers ready to put their energy into this educational project. From mid-July it continues with adult volunteers.

The first eleven sentinels have begun monitoring, surveillance and control of the places, but also daily awareness-raising activities aimed at users of the coastal strip, for a correct stay on the coast in full respect of the ecosystem. The service will end on September 15th. «Once again the union between Area Marina and Legambiente proves successful, with the aim of protecting the environmental resource through a project that we conceived during the first five administrative years and which has grown a lot over time thanks to the collaboration of Legambiente - said the mayor Andrea Abis - For this we must give great credit to the operators of the Marine Protected Area, who believed in the goodness of the citizens' participatory collaboration. Since last year, Sinis Sentinels has been part of a national program that sees the participation of volunteers from all over Italy and Europe, who we welcome with enthusiasm, aware of the great work done and confident that their presence in the area will be an enrichment». The tourist will be at the center of the project. Activities will be aimed at it and info-points will be activated, with the aim of informing the visitor about the places and opportunities present in the area and about the importance of actions to protect the marine and coastal environment.
