The Is Arutas campsite was burglarized. Refrigerators, cabinets, even two electric minivans and a wooden pergola were missing. Stefania Musiu, the manager of Spinnaker Service, which ran the facility, filed a complaint with the Carabinieri, and an investigation is ongoing.
The campground had been closed for months after the Municipality of Cabras terminated the contract on February 27th for serious breaches. The concession was revoked on May 13th, and then closed permanently at the end of June. "Since then, the campground and all its assets have been taken into the custody of the Municipality," explains Riccardo Crovi, the lawyer representing Spinnaker Service. " After much insistence, at the end of July we were allowed to enter the campground to begin removing the company's exclusive property." On that occasion, documents were taken and a thorough inspection of all the assets was conducted, while some seasonal workers had removed their caravans. "We entered on August 27th and nothing was missing," adds the lawyer. Stefania Musiu, along with her lawyer, was only able to return to the campground last Thursday, despite numerous requests. "We noted the theft of many valuable items; the Carabinieri of Cabras and representatives of the Municipality were also with us," he adds. Someone stole a Lancia Delta, two electric minicars, cold storage rooms, an industrial fryer and oven, a steel wardrobe and countertop, a coffee machine, sinks, a three-wheeler, and other equipment.
The story
The troubled history of the campsite culminated with the closure of a major facility on the Sinis coast. The management contract had been signed in 2016, stipulating an annual fee of approximately €40,000, with the agreement that the operator would carry out a series of renovations within two years. Only a few improvements were made, and starting in 2019, the annual fees would no longer be paid. In 2021, Stefania Musiu became the company's new administrator, restarted the work, and resumed paying the outstanding fees, even as the most recent ones accumulated. The situation was not simple and resulted in the contract being terminated. In recent days, the campsite was supposed to be cleared, but in reality, it had been burgled by unknown assailants.
