It is no longer a local event, and it showed. The one that just ended was the record-breaking San Salvatore festival. Never before had so many people been seen around that army of men dressed in white. Faithful people arriving from every corner of the island, tourists leaving Sinis fascinated by the ritual of the Corsa degli Scalzi .
But the firecrackers requested by the Committee, which, thanks to citizens' donations, organized the civil celebrations, did not go unnoticed either: the explosion on Sunday evening lasted 40 minutes.
"We conclude the San Salvatore festival with the certainty of having reached a good organizational level - comments Mayor Andrea Abis - This edition has reached a number of attendees that significantly exceeds that of previous editions, especially with regard to Sunday. Being able to protect the event in its integrity and at the same time manage a mass of public of this size is the task that has been assigned to us. Our commitment is to improve further, progressively, year after year".
It was the Scalze who closed the celebrations this morning after nine days of prayers, emotions, music and good food. The women, 400, wearing traditional costumes, walked the dirt paths of Sinis to bring the simulacrum of “Santu Srabadoeddu” from San Salvatore to the church of Santa Maria Assunta where it will remain guarded for another whole year. And in San Salvatore silence reigns once again.
