We will continue to dig, in search of new treasures to tell a new piece of the Island. The archaeological excavation campaign at the Tharros site will continue in 2025, with two new interventions authorized by the Cabras City Council, which expressed a favorable opinion unanimously in the City Council session.

The authorization proposal, which in addition to some areas within the city of Tharros, also concerns the area of the Sa Codriola isthmus and an area of Capo San Marco, was illustrated in the chamber by the councilor delegated to Civic Uses Alessandra Pinna. The research activity will be conducted by the University of Bologna - Department of Cultural Heritage and coordinated by Professor Anna Chiara Fariselli and will be divided into two phases: the first will take place from April to June in the area of the Cardo maximus, while the continuation is scheduled for the month of October in the area of the isthmus and Capo San Marco.

"As the coordinator of the excavation project has underlined, these are particularly significant areas from an archaeological point of view, affected by important findings made during previous campaigns", explained Councilor Alessandra Pinna. In particular, in the area of the isthmus an ancient furnace of significant historical value was found. The area of the Cardo maximus, on the other hand, has returned traces of a large public building from the late-ancient period, built on the remains of a previous Punic temple of even larger dimensions. Among the finds found are valuable objects such as pins made from female bones, coins, bronze jewelry, glasses and vases in blown glass.

"Since the areas involved fall on lands subject to civic use - concludes Councilor Pinna - the intervention of the City Council was necessary to authorize the activities. With the green light, the Administration confirms its desire to support scientific research and enhance the archaeological and cultural heritage of its territory".
