She could have waited until the next City Council meeting to clarify the matter, but instead, Social Services Councilor Laura Celletti immediately responded to a question posed two days ago by Councilor Antonello Manca regarding food donated to the town's poor at Christmas and never delivered. "For several years, especially during the Christmas season but throughout the year, we have been helping vulnerable people and families in need by donating food and personal and household products. We invest significant resources, which previously didn't exist, and we are involved in volunteer work," she recalls. "This Christmas 2025, tons of food were distributed, including pasta, rice, biscuits, milk, preserves, and meat, and we supported 126 families referred by associations and social services."
All food items are delivered to people based on reports from social workers, and the bags are proportionate to the size of the family, which is determined by the expiration date of the food. Following Councilor Manca's question, I went to the food bank to check all the food and unfortunately discovered that approximately 18 cartons of milk expired three days ago. Unfortunately, this milk had been recorded in the food bank's inventory with the date 9:03 instead of 9:02, a purely clerical error in the computer. I am deeply sorry and heartbroken by this mistake, but I take full responsibility for what happened. I do not want the good name of our administration and all the good work it has done over the years to be lost. I emphasize that these cartons of milk are not part of the donations made by individuals; they are milk purchased by the Municipality.
Councilor Celletti, however, also points to another unclear aspect: "As for Councilor Manca," she comments, " I will ask how long he had access to the expiration date information on milk cartons and, above all, how he was able to access the food counter, which is located in a secure, locked room , access to which is absolutely forbidden for obvious food safety reasons."
