New episode of violence against healthcare workers at Brotzu in Cagliari . On the night of Monday 17 June , two nurses on duty were brutally attacked and threatened with death by the wife of a deceased patient .

The complaint comes from Diego Murracino, regional manager of the Nursing Up Sardinia union.

According to what has been reconstructed, the wife of a patient in the Neurology department, after receiving the phone call from the doctor on duty informing her of her husband's death, entered the hospital room around 11pm where her husband's body was still present as well as to three other patients and the two nurses, who were victims of a violent attack with "blows, jerks and death threats" .

About two hours after the timely intervention of the Carabinieri, the woman was removed from the ward, "while she promised the medical and nursing staff - the unions further explain - that she would return with a gun ".

The nurses, visited in the emergency room, "in addition to the psychological trauma due to the attack and the death threats , reported injuries and physical trauma ".

The Nursing Up union therefore expresses the "maximum solidarity with the colleagues who were victims of unprecedented violence while working to guarantee assistance and care to citizens".

«The incidents of violence against healthcare personnel – continues the union – are increasingly frequent throughout the national territory, not excluding Sardinia» and are « intolerable : it is urgent that the Company Managements, the Sardinia Region and the Prefecture do not ignore what is happening but take immediate action to ensure a safe workplace for healthcare professionals."
