"My family taught me not to jump to conclusions, to wait for justice to take its course. It's not easy in this case, because the anger and pain of these years could take over, but I have faith in those who are working to ensure that justice is done and dignity is restored to my brother Mario."
These are the words of Eleonora Sedda, faced with the turning point in the murder of her brother, Mario Sedda, the 39-year-old killed in Porto Torres on the night between 29 and 30 March 2021. The alleged culprit, a twenty-year-old, is accused of aggravated murder for having used torture and for having acted with cruelty , as well as of contempt of a corpse for having disfigured the body with chemical products.
Sedda's body was found on April 1, 2021, in the green area between Via Sassari and Via dell'Erica, at the entrance to the city. Eleonora had been waiting for four years for light to be shed on the murder of the street poet. "It comforts me to know that there are people who have collaborated in the investigation, which has reached a turning point. I am certain - she adds - that the whole truth will come out, even if it is the last thing I do to get it."
The order of pre-trial detention in prison reveals disturbing details, due to the way in which the facts allegedly unfolded. According to the forensic medical examinations, death would have been caused by numerous injuries inflicted by a knife with a 20-centimeter long blade, a torture inflicted in a moment of inability to react of the victim, hit with kicks, punches, stones and cutting weapons, to the face and abdomen, but also to the wrists, hands and feet. Then with chemical products they rage on his body.
Mario Sedda was found dead by a passerby who was walking his dog. On his cheekbone was a broken blade of a kitchen knife. Near the body was also a bloody stone. From the cameras, initially inspected by investigators, three individuals can be seen crossing via Sassari. One of them appears to be Mario Sedda wearing a backpack, found at the crime scene, while the other two are both carrying a bag and one of them is carrying a trolley. They stop in the green area, where the body of the 39-year-old was found. Some witnesses said they saw the three individuals arguing heatedly two days before the body was found.
The investigations on the telephone records did the rest. The investigations, coordinated by the Juvenile Prosecutor's Office of Sassari, were carried out thanks to the support of the Carabinieri of the Scientific Investigations department of Cagliari, through the collection of telephone and environmental interceptions, the analysis of the images from the cameras and the various technical assessments.
