Tragedy was almost reached. A fire broke out in the afternoon in a house in via Brigata Sassari, in the center of Macomer, fortunately without serious consequences for the inhabitants.

In the woodshed next to the house, a bag of coal, which had been used at lunchtime to light a barbecue, caught fire. The flames immediately invaded the building, filling the entire house with smoke. Inside there were two people, Antioco Deidda, an 83-year-old disabled pensioner and his 40-year-old son Andrea. The causes of the fire were to be found in a bag of coal, inside which some pieces were placed, probably still lit, used to fuel a barbecue for the family New Year's party.

The woodshed was quickly engulfed in flames, causing the roof to collapse. Antioco Deidda was taken ill and was therefore admitted to Nuoro hospital for checks. The firefighters intervened on site and worked for a few hours to definitively put out the fire, followed by a patrol with police officers.
