The number of patients hospitalized for botulism poisoning after attending a street party in Monserrato has risen to eight. Two new patients are being treated in the Neurology department at Brotzu Hospital, where a 38-year-old woman remains in intensive care and remains seriously ill. Three more suspected cases have been added to the confirmed cases: one at Brotzu Hospital and a mother and child at the Policlinico Hospital.
However, pending further investigation, their names have not been registered with the Local Health Authority's Public Health Department, which, in close collaboration with the National Institute of Health, is monitoring the situation.
The latest patients had also eaten food seasoned with guacamole served at a Mexican stand at the Fiesta Latina, which took place on Via Caracalla in Monserrato between July 22 and 24. The progression of the serious infection caused by the toxic bacterium varies and depends on numerous factors . For this reason, some cases are only now emerging.
