The griffin is actually a she, her name is Cristina and she arrived a few months ago, injured, in the Bonassai Wildlife Recovery Center, managed by the Forestas Regional Agency.
Cristina was cured and after the period of captivity that served to recover her strength yesterday she was released by the Forestas Agency in Badde Orca, in the municipal area of Montresta, in an area overlooking the sea, along the coast. western Sardinia.
A GPS has been installed at the griffin which will allow it to monitor its movements. The activity is part of the LIFE Safe for Vultures actions: funded by LIFE 2014-2020, the new Program for the environment and climate action. The project aims to ensure the long-term survival of the griffon vulture population in Sardinia. The partnership, led by the Department of Veterinary Medicine of the University of Sassari, collects the legacy of the LIFE Under Griffon Wings project. In addition to the University of Sassari and Forestas, the Forestry and Environmental Surveillance Corps of the Sardinia Region, E-Distribuzione and Vulture Conservation Foundation are partners of the project.
