“Bee” chants by Milan fans, Riva: «You give us energy, if you want to hurt us don’t call us shepherds but “costa smeraldini”»
Nicola, son of Gigi and board member of Cagliari Calcio: «Like when Dad was there. But let the opponents know that for us it is a source of pride»Per restare aggiornato entra nel nostro canale Whatsapp
"Nothing has changed from the chants that dad heard in the years of the great Cagliari, when they called us shepherds and bandits." Nicola Riva was at San Siro yesterday for the match against Milan. And so begins his reflection on the chants addressed by the Rossoneri fans to their island rivals ("You'll be back in Serie Bee", with a clear reference to sheep), during the match that ended with the result of 1-1.
"I realize how low the level of certain organized fan bases is," says Riva, a member of the board of directors of the rossoblù club, "the Milan fans spent the entire match singing against Inter and the Bee towards us: if I were a "simple" Milan fan, I would ask myself a few questions."
From the inspiration to the conclusion: «But I want to say one thing, as a Sardinian and as a Cagliari fan: thank you. Because just like when we won the championship , even today, in 2025, while we are aware that Sardinia and Cagliari are one of the most beautiful places in the world to live, as well as an international tourist destination, with these chants you do nothing but ignite our passion, our pride, our fierceness».
Riva then turns to the authors of the chants: «Dear pseudo-fans, we are proud of everything you sing to us, proud, our sense of belonging is strong, deep-rooted. And if you shout certain phrases at us, you do nothing but charge us even more as fans, but also and above all as a team that goes onto the field. Because every single Cagliari player who takes to the field plays representing a people and its history, identity, culture with great pride and fierceness».
And finally a piece of advice: "If you really want to hurt us, don't call us shepherds, but Costa Smeraldini. Here, maybe you could get a different result."
