Water returns to the farms of Baronia. From Siniscola to Porto San Paolo, from early January, many will be able to breathe a sigh of relief. After six difficult months dealing with drought and restrictions that have brought everyone to their knees, farmers and citizens, the "normal management conditions of the consortium water network connected to the Maccheronis reservoir that allows the water supply of agricultural and livestock users and extra-irrigation" have been restored.
This was communicated by the Regional Agency of the Hydrographic District of Sardinia, which has authorized the use of one million cubic meters of water for watering livestock and company uses , and for supplying homes in the countryside not served by Abbanoa . Open field irrigation remains prohibited.
The news «is the result of teamwork that has seen our Authority in recent months - says Ambrogio Guiso, president of the Consorzio di Bonifica della Sardegna Centrale - always on the front line fighting to protect agricultural companies and all users who use the water from the Maccheronis dam to provide relief to their needs». The rainfall of recent weeks has also brought serenity and tranquility, allowing us to meet «our pressing requests» in advance, highlights Guiso. In fact, on 18 December, on the instructions of the regional councillor for Agriculture, the Institutional Committee of the Basin Authority of Sardinia authorised «the assignment to the Consorzio di Bonifica della Sardegna Centrale, from the Maccheronis reservoir, of a water volume equal to 1 million cubic metres with immediate effect and until 28 February 2020
Speaking of numbers, the Maccheronis has taken in approximately 5.8 million cubic meters of water. "Since the first days of December , 100 thousand cubic meters per day have been entering compared to an estimated consumption starting from January 1st of approximately 30/33 thousand cubic meters per day" . This has calmed the concerns, allowing the approval of requests to accommodate not only farmers but also owners of second homes. Operations are underway to purge the pipes that from the beginning of January will serve the territory that goes from Siniscola to Porto San Paolo. "Finally, on December 31st we close with the transport with tankers and we send the water into the network", concludes Guiso.
