He flew off the roadway and crashed over the guardrail on Provincial Road 65, just outside the town of Guspini. Attilio Mocci, a 49-year-old shepherd from Guspini, died last night shortly after 6:00 PM . The timely intervention of emergency services was in vain; the impact was too violent for the man. The news of the tragedy adds an even more painful note: the breeder was on his way to his son's party.

The Carabinieri of the local station conducted the investigation and reconstructed the incident. For reasons still under investigation, the 49-year-old lost control of the car, skidding, crossing into the oncoming lane, and leaving the carriageway of the provincial road leading to the village of Sant'Antonio di Santadi, crashing into a small concrete bridge.

High risk

Yesterday's accident is just the latest in a long series of incidents over the years along the dangerous road leading to the coast and the numerous farms bordering Arbus. All road markings are missing along the route, there are no reflective posts marking the lane limits, and numerous road signs are damaged and, in some cases, abandoned in ditches.

The previous one

The numerous road accidents are also evidenced by the marks left by cars hitting guardrails. Just 15 days ago, another accident occurred not far from where Attilio Mocci lost his life yesterday: that day, an SUV and a motorcycle had collided head-on.
