The first ecological boat built in Sardinia was born. A unique example, a prototype of the most widespread and famous dinghy in the world, the one with which children learn to go to sea and sail independently, the Optimist.

The project, which started last year by Nox Oceani, had a long gestation due to the search for highly innovative and at the same time sustainable materials. And now it's reality: today the presentation at the Porto Rotondo Yacht club.

«Today the zero-impact Optimist is a reality», reveals the founder of Nox Oceani Francesca De Natale, «the boat is built in basalt fibre, a recyclable material which keeps its qualities constant over time and which, combined with the vegetable origin used for lamination, replaces the fiberglass commonly used for this type of construction. To complete the creation of some components of the hull, bio-expanded material was used, a compostable polystyrene-like product with zero impact on the environment, and to finish everything off, cork was applied inside the boat".

Technology and materials used in the construction of the Nox Oceani boat make this Optimist eco-sustainable. Not only that, basalt fiber has very high performance: according to the project promoters, a step forward compared to fibreglass.

«With this boat we want to send a message», explains De Natale, «to accustom the new generations to the concept of eco-sustainability and the protection of the world in which we live. We adults have a great responsibility to educate young people to respect nature, helping to reduce waste to a minimum. For this reason we hope that, more than any other, the International Optimist Dinghy Association will want to consider the idea of modifying the rule that imposes fiberglass as a construction material for the hull, opening up the possibility of building boats with innovative and ecological".
