It takes care of patients with a new cancer diagnosis and accompanies them along the recovery journey . It's called CAS, the new service reception center, which is located on the ground floor of the San Martino hospital in Oristano.

Its activity was inaugurated in October and «we started with breast and colon tumors – explains the director of the Complex Oncology Structure Luigi Curreli – because these are the ones that unfortunately affect the most patients currently». There are 24 people already taken into care. The CAS takes the patients by the hand during the staging process and initiation of therapies for the relevant department. «If they have to undergo surgery – continues Curreli – they are evaluated by an interdisciplinary team and then accompanied to their surgical destination. If, however, they must undergo chemotherapy prior to surgery, the staging tests are completed and accompanied to our Day Hospital.

At the CAS the patient is welcomed and supported in the oncological path . Users with a referral with a suspected or confirmed oncological pathology are taken care of and adequate information is provided on the services provided and on how to access the same services. Furthermore, after initial care, the patient is monitored at the end of each phase of the diagnostic-therapeutic process, just as the relationships between the Center and the individual structures are constant, which will assist, step by step, the user but also with the other Reception Services Centres, which are part of the new assistance network for cancer patients desired by the Region.
