A wave of anger and disbelief has spread through the Assemini community following the events of the night between Sunday and Monday on Via Trieste and the surrounding areas. Several motorists, both residents and passing through, were shocked to wake up to find their vehicles targeted by unknown assailants.
The media buzz was sparked by Alice Piano, who raised the alarm on the Facebook page "Assemini in Comune": "I'm informing all owners of cars parked on Via Trieste (in front of Iperpan) and surrounding streets (Via Bologna, Via Del Popolo) that their tanks have been emptied. All the cars had their gas tanks open, including ours. How incredibly sad."
The report immediately sparked debate among residents, divided between those who fear a wave of thefts and those who are trying to downplay the incident. Among those urging caution is William Quintavalle, who offers an alternative theory: "It's more likely that they just opened the door as a prank. It's not a very quick operation, and it's quite visible."
The affected area is covered by several video surveillance systems, which could prove crucial in clarifying the nature of the incident. At the moment, however, the bureaucratic process is stalled: the Carabinieri at the Assemini station have been informed of the incident, but no formal complaint appears to have been filed.
Mayor Mario Puddu also weighed in on the matter, expressing his shock at the incident: "They don't know what crimes they can invent anymore. My advice is to report them."
The mayor's appeal is aimed at urging the victims to officially contact law enforcement. Only through a formal complaint will it be possible to initiate the necessary investigations and review the surveillance footage to identify those responsible, putting an end to what, for now, remains a disturbing nocturnal mystery.
